If you see cracks, crumbling, poped mortar, voids or worn away mortar - odds are you need tuckpointing.

Depending on the condition of your building - removal of all loose or crumbling mortar, grinding of mortar joints to a uniform 1/2" up to 1" depth, depending.

The installation - tuckpointing of one to two layers of new mortar, depending, with a struck compressed surface.

Different types of mortar mixes are used depending on the type and condition of the brick.

The appearance of the building can be changed and enhanced by the type of joint and color of mortar. Samples can be placed on areas before beginning of work to review.

Popped, Spalled Brick
Depending on type of brick and aging of, or type of joint, over time it will start to allow moisture to penetrate. This in turn will freeze and expand, causing the outer surface of the brick or mortar to spall, pop off. It is a common problem in this area of the country. The only way to properly repair this is to replace it with new.

There are many styles of struck joints:
Listed below in order of effectiveness to deter water.

1, 4 and 6 - Mostly used with common brick.
2,3 and 5 - Mostly used with face brick.
7 - Used on all, not recommended as it
covers the brick and will pop off quicker.
