Lintel and Steel Replacement
When water penetrates into a wall it causes deterioration of the lintels, I Beams and C Channels, which are used to bridge openings and carry the load of multifloor heights of masonry. Rusted expanding or bowed irons will cause the supported masonry to crack, sag or displace at which time replacement is necessary.
At that time, masonry is shored up and masonry and steel is removed. Any steel which does not need to be replaced, which is then exposed, should be cleaned of all rust and then should be rust proofed and painted. If replacement is necessarry, then new steel (zinc coated or rust proofed and painted) then installed. Weeps for water to exit and perm-a-barrier flashing is installed with a proper seal along edges and end dams if needed. |
