A white powder effervesce on the surface of the brick, is caused by moisture penetrating and causing the salts to crystallize on the surface. Some times this will go away but other times it will reoccur.
A cleaning with a non acidic, environmentally compatible solution may stop this problem.
Dirty or stained brick, all the above combining with dirt and other chemicals in the air. Which can be removed through chemical cleaning and or power washing. The type of brick and mortar can effect the degree of the results.
